So the adventures begin ! We have already had drama with flight times changing on us. Carmine and I arrive in Rio at 4:30am. We were to have 5 hours until our next flight to Ciuaba except that the geniuses at TAM airlines decided to change the flight times.
We now have. 1hr 45mins to emigrate, leave one terminal for another, check into the domestic flight and go again.
We helped ourselves tonight by deciding to carry hand luggage only now ( for a 3 week trip)! Luckily , tshirts and shorts , which comprise 95% of my luggage doesn’t take up much area…
It seems like World Cup fever has finally ‘gripped’ my street! 32 carefully selected flags now adorn the local . You can see , nay, feel the excitement on the streets! Um, not really…
One sleep later and I get reflective on when it was 9 sleeps to go. And now I have a web site to follow the action !
I will update this every day until the World Cup with ( hopefully ) humorous stories and tales as well as live score updates from the games themselves.
How far we’ve come ! After going through basic, secondary and further schooling, securing income, passport and enthusiasm for football, befriending Carmine in my teens which saw our friendship develop into enthusiasm for the world cup, we are here!
It was at my second birthday that I realized that I had better start getting myself organised. The 2014 World cup was fast approaching and I was a little under prepared. No job, no money, little comprehension of English and I was yet to spell my own name.13,000 or so days to get all of that sorted out so I didnt miss the boat !
Ahh Cuiaba, who would have known that the city founded in 1719 during the Brazilian Gold Rush , would be host to Carmine, PJ and I for 2 weeks , 295 years later. A lots changed since those days. Arnold Frans Rubens died that year. If he had lived another 159 or so years, rumor is, he wouldnt have liked the game anyway, so he didn’t miss out on much.
